Join us as we explore the transformative world of holistic wellness with Dr Cheryl Ivaniski. It is such a pleasure to have you with us, cheryl. I have a lot of questions. For sure you do holistic diabetes, and that is such a big thing because I have diabetes, which I did not tell you in our preamble. This is going to be a conversation just for me and a million other people who probably have the same questions that I do. But before we get started, I ask each and every guest this one question what is your definition of healing?

Speaker 2:

Oh wow, great question. So how I define and how I look at and how I experience healing for myself and others is giving the body what it needs, and that can even be rest, so it does not actually have to physically be a vitamin or a mineral or a food substance. Sometimes it is rest Giving the body what it needs when it needs it, so that it can do the job it was born and meant to do.

Speaker 1:

I think you are speaking to me and you do not even know it. We are a holistic organization, so I just went to the psychic fair that recently happened here in close by me. My energy reading and I have been hearing these messages for a while is that you need to rest. I was just talking to a friend of mine before we started recording. I realize I do not know what that is.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I do not, because we are on autopilot.

Speaker 1:

What it is? Because when I do sit and I get to do nothing, my brain is telling me you have to do something. I wonder how that impacts us. Even when we are doing nothing like the physical, lie down, maybe watch TV or read a book, my brain is like you could be putting the dishes away, you could be tidying up this, all of this stuff In your experience. How does that impact our bodies?

Speaker 2:

I have a wonderful book that I have co-written with Mr Les Brown. I have an entire contribution in that book. When it comes to quietening the mind, I also co-wrote a book with Mr Jack Canfield and in that book I talk about providing exercise for people to do when we think we are doing nothing and we are thinking about what we are thinking of doing. That is not doing nothing Because we are still on autopilot. At least our mind is.

Speaker 2:

In order for us to quieten our mind, I think one of the great influencers that can help us is being out in nature, I think, allowing our senses to attune to the environment that we are in.

Speaker 2:

Our senses are more alert, breathing in the fresh air, smelling the flowers or smelling the earth. This is a time of the year where there is all different sense right now, just being able to free the mind up. Often, like I said, it is like the number of thoughts, the thousands and thousands of thoughts that we have a day, ones that we filter and ones that we don't, our conscious thoughts and subconscious thoughts. They are always bombarding us and that can put us in overwhelm. That is why the monks that meditate for days and hours and days to truly quieten the mind. I think nature helps us when we are grounded out in nature, when we are allowing our senses to take in the environment. I think that helps to diffuse the chatter, like you said I could be doing that. Oh my gosh, that is on my list to do. I can't forget to do that, it is a lot.

Speaker 1:

It is a lot. It is funny because many of us here, you have been doing so much. You need to slow down. I hear this from my family and I am like but there is still so much to do.

Speaker 2:

That is where block booking, that is where co-sharing, different responsibilities, that is where asking yourself how important is that really in the scheme of things, and is that where I want to spend my time, or is that where I need to spend my time? How many things can come up our plate if we actually just decide what is most important and what is priority. It is funny how things can allow them. We can just miss them.

Speaker 1:

It's funny that you're saying that, because it's so easy to say to others which I have said the exact same thing to clients. When it comes to yourself, it's like do as I say and not as I do.

Speaker 2:

Well, there's a lot of truth to that. It's like exercising a muscle, it's actually like it's a discipline, it's actually being consciously aware and choosing lock book times where you don't engage in things other than what's in front of you, or even that rest that we were talking about, and it's new for a lot of people but it's like scheduling time for yourself. You know, if you don't do that and if you're not taking care of self, then how healing, how supportive are you to the healing process in your body?

Speaker 1:

Exactly. And then how do you just have the space to provide that healing for others? You know, as a healer, you're not rejuvenating, like I said it's. I know this stuff. If you're rejuvenating, then you know how are you able then to be the vessel for others and others space.

Speaker 2:

You're right, and I know that you mentioned to me that you're you do Reiki practice, right? Yeah, and myself as well. And the big, you know, question that comes up around that is and when we're looking at, yes, how do we compartmentalize, compartmentalize, but, you know, when we're able to look at energy. If you think of Niagara Falls, niagara Falls is an endless flow of energy in one direction and it's unlimited, it's abundant, it never stops, it never gets backed up. If we can allow ourselves to receive the abundance of energy in the way that Niagara Falls flows its water in abundance, and we know that we don't need to be depleted in order to heal, in order to we don't have to give a, give out our energy such that we deplete ourselves. The universal energy can empower all of us and we can allow ourselves to receive it. The art to being able to do that is being aware of how to receive, because a lot of us are givers, especially women. Yeah, do we know how to receive? That's a whole other conversation, but isn't that a good question?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yes, it's incredible because there's just so much information out there, there's so much that we want to do, there's so much that we're capable of doing. And then there's the thing about where do we find the balance, the energetic balance, the mental balance, like all of the balance. And that's going to bring me to I know it's a weird way to come to it, because I really feel like you know a lot of our physical ailments, the things that we deal with. I've got the triple threat, so you know the high blood pressure, the cholesterol, the diabetes, and today we're going to talk and delve in a little bit more into the diabetes. But you know, how are we impacting ourselves? Not just by, like I know there's the diet thing, right, like there's, there's the food and the intake, but how does that piece that we were just talking about influence those type of ailments?

Speaker 2:

I'll tell you something when you're living with any condition, whether it's diabetes or anything else, I think we look at ourselves as deficient and I look at disease as an opportunity to learn life lessons. I think that they're teachers. So if we separate ourselves from ourselves and the disease, or we start to label ourselves as ie, a diabetic, then I think that's very disempowering. I think if you happen to be a woman living vibrantly well, who happens to have diabetes, then that doesn't define you. I think that that's very empowering. Now, when I, when it comes to food, when it comes to movement, when it comes to insulin resistance and insulin efficiency, and I'm a woman who comes from over four generations of people with type one, type 1.5 and type two diabetes, so it's been in my family a long time.

Speaker 1:

Okay, hold on. I haven't heard of 1.5.

Speaker 2:

Okay, well, that's a whole other conversation, but I can tell you that. I can tell you that 1.5 is a subtype of type one diabetes, which is people who are normally diagnosed over the age of 30. Okay, you do have type one, because traditionally and typically you would think of type one. It used to be called juvenile diabetes, right, yes, it was young people you know I very young people and doctor under the age of 16, 18 that may have gotten type one diabetes. However, you're noticing, and statistics are showing us, that people with type one diabetes are more and more crossing the entire spectrum of age. Just recently, a couple months ago, a retired paramedic came to me, at the age of 71, who was just diagnosed with type one diabetes. Oh, wow.

Speaker 2:

So type one diabetes affects. It knows no boundaries. It knows no. No, it doesn't discriminate if you're male or female, if you're two or 92, if you're male or female. So type one and a half is, like I said, those with type one that are diagnosed post age 30, 35. And you'll also notice that people diagnosed with type two diabetes which is 90 to 95% of our people out here, with the world's largest pandemic with type two diabetes that's typically been someone over the age of 30, 40 who would have type two, and yet we see children now under the age of 10 with type two. So you know, there's not like the boundaries, like a traditional thought process of how it used to be.

Speaker 1:

Hmm, okay, and we will talk more about that Definitely. But let's round back to the way we, how we see ourselves inside of our ailments, right?

Speaker 2:

So that's a really good point. So I can tell you that it is taken a lifetime and generations of people in my family to contribute towards what really are the pillars for people with diabetes. It's is it all about food? Because if you watch everything you eat and you're checking your sugars and they're still high. Why is that? And stress and mindset is going to be the first thing. Because you can be eating whatever works for you, for your blood sugars, you can be moving an hour and you can have a personal trainer and your sugars can still be out of whack despite all of those efforts. And it comes to mindset and it comes to stress as number one. You know, stress is probably the number one killer in the world and it's how we manage our mindset and our stress.

Speaker 2:

So when you're looking at the holistic approach, it has a huge impact and a huge influence.

Speaker 2:

Most people that come to our challenges and our webinars and in our group coaching and even our VIP coaching, the one thing they all have in common is this they feel frustrated, they feel overwhelmed and they feel alone. And that's because they're like hitting their head against a brick wall over and over, because they're getting the same results, because everything is focused on food and it's not all about food. And also, when it comes to food, just to comment on that, the only thing that most people have ever known is a typical traditional food guide from the country in which they live, and I share in some of our free webinars and in our trainings that diabetes increased over 116 percent. As a matter of fact, lynn was floored when she attended one of my free events and she actually and that's the director of the holistic directory so Lynn was floored because, based on the recommendations of the American food guide and the Canadian food guide alone, that increased the incidence of diabetes over 116 percent in between 2002 and 2018.

Speaker 1:

Holy, Moses, I was going to say a different word.

Speaker 2:

Well, all the reasons why are great, but here's what I can tell you.

Speaker 2:

When you're looking at nothing other than refined and processed foods, and no matter what type of carbohydrates you're looking at or fat that you're looking at when you're basing a diet that was based on post-war to keep people alive with minimal requirements, there's nothing specialized about that for people with diabetes, but yet that's what's been used.

Speaker 2:

So the good news is, over the last 30 years, since I was diagnosed with diabetes and having the influence of four generations of my family and being both licensed traditionally as a licensed healthcare professional from a traditional model of care and also as a doctor in holistic studies and a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, I can tell you that, with a truly integrative approach and learning at what all the triggers are for blood sugars, I can let you know that now here at Holistic Diabetes Solutions, we've been able to create the Diabetes-Friendly Food Guide that goes into the depths of all of the pairing and the low glycemic foods and what to pair with what to get the response that you want. How fat plays a role with insulin resistance in your sugars, the role of protein and the role of. Did you know there's over six, seven types of carbohydrates, and there's one that will actually lower your blood sugars and help you replace medication. So we've come a long way.

Speaker 1:

Isn't that?

Speaker 2:

mind-blowing.

Speaker 1:

Mind-blowing. You know, I know it's a topic of conversation out there right now A lot of. I don't know if it's just because now I have it, I'm more. You know it works in the world where now you have something or you want something. You see it everywhere, you hear about it everywhere, but I do believe this is a conversation because it is becoming an epidemic. You know we are not treating our bodies with the respect and love that it needs because we are busy being and the doing, not being. What's interesting to me is I did go to a diabetic clinic and, because you are a Canadian and in the environment that I went to, I went to a diabetic clinic at the hospital and they are still teaching your food groups and this is what you should have and these are the carbs that you should choose and this is this and this is this. And there was very little, if I recall, because it's been a bit since I attended it, about a holistic approach. It was more about what are you eating?

Speaker 2:

Our traditional model of care. And don't get me wrong, I am grateful that insulin was discovered by Bantene Invest. It keeps me alive. I am grateful for traditional medicine and I believe there's some amazing things in traditional medicine. However, I believe that when it comes to the prevention of complications, which has paralyzed our emergency departments and has crippled our health crisis system, because it hasn't been a health care system If it was a health care system, we would not be there in crises. We would be there asking more preventive questions. So I just want to point out that, as much as I think that there's some wonderful achievements in traditional medicine that from a preventive standpoint or from a let's deal with the root cause and a holistic approach that is not the philosophy of traditional medicine.

Speaker 2:

The approach of the traditional medicine is what's going on? Let's treat the symptoms and let's get you through, to get through these symptoms, but it's never addressing what's really going on. So the philosophy is a prescription-based world. And so with diabetes, because it's the one disease out of all the diseases in the world, we as a people have the most control over if we have the appropriate tools. So I have to let you know that doctors, when they go to school. They get depended on where they go to school and when they may have gotten, if they were lucky, hours of nutrition. You can put on one or two hands. The training that they get in this particular area is very general and once you graduate, there's not a lot of postgraduate training in this area. So, as general doctors, it's not the area of specialization and unfortunately our medical system hasn't shone the spotlight on here to look at what works, because they're not working with the cause, with the more natural approach.

Speaker 2:

It embraces tradition, but it looks at what are the triggers that are causing this and how can we deal with the insulin resistance or how can we deal with the receptor cell inactivity and blockage, because the problem often is not the pancreas or the production of insulin, which is what is treated. It is how well the receptor cells absorb it and put it to work. So if there's traffic jams in your body and you're being prescribed a medication that's forcing your pancreas to produce more insulin and that's not the problem and it's like you running on a treadmill at number 10, that cannot stop, it's going to wear out your organs so they don't work. So the problem isn't really being addressed.

Speaker 2:

Because again, well, the first question you asked me is how do I define healing? Well, if we give our bodies what our bodies need, and sometimes it's a break, sometimes it's a reset, sometimes it's detox, sometimes it's more of something, sometimes it's a balance of some things, sometimes it's recognizing triggers and reserving those for one-off occasions and using a diabetes friendly swap, which tastes just as amazing, if not better, where you can indulge and not ever apologize for loving your food. And that's what I love about what I do, because here at Holistic Diabetes Solutions and when actually came in our group coaching program with our diabetes friendly kitchen and all she was doing was like wow, wow, wow, oh my gosh, I can swat about this for that and I can still love all this. Wow, I can do this and that. Who knew? And so it's a wonderful world when you recognize there's so much more to it that traditional medicine doesn't offer and that they're just not trained in.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I heard a lot in that, so we're gonna dissect a little bit of it because we only have a limited amount of time, but we can always talk again. I think I say that to all of our guests like this time is not enough, we need more. There's a couple of things that I heard in what you were saying. Okay, just to confirm that, yes, traditional medications or medicine there is, of course, advantages to it, otherwise wouldn't be doing what it's doing. But I think the place where we are lacking in general as an understanding from society is that Holistic, root cause approach. So, for instance, I myself know that I'm an emotional eater. I also have diabetes, and when I emotionally eat, I'm not going to celery and carrots, right, I'm going to. For me it's cookies and chips. And so there is this like okay, well, what do we address? It's not just the eating, right, it's the. We got to look at the emotional thing, the thing, the psychological thing that's happening.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely.

Speaker 1:

To constantly go into this space? And why is it so prevalent that it's caused diabetes?

Speaker 2:

Right. Well, I can tell you that one of the reasons I think that that is and I have to tell you, in the first 10 years that I had diabetes, I can tell you that I would take more insulin so that I could eat the foods that I wanted, so that I use medicine as a crunch and as a reason to validate of the behavior that I wanted to do. That wasn't helping me, but I told myself that that was okay. And I see it every day in my practice. I see it every day in our coaching programs with thousands of people, because we feel that if we just take that other pill or if we double up on something, or if we take a little bit more insulin, you know what we got it made. What that actually does is it exasperates, because then you have hyperinsulinemia, more insulin in the body than it needs, toxic and more sugar in the bloodstream.

Speaker 2:

Believe it or not, that the body has to process. And here's the thing when it comes to behavioral changes, we're always looking for the easy way or we're looking for you know it to be, you know, not challenging, and it actually doesn't have to be. But our behavioral changes are mindset, and how our subconscious things is really amazing. I recognized I'm going to say about six years before I was diagnosed, five years before I was diagnosed in my 20s the power of mindset. So I actually took and graduated in the master program for hypnosis and my body medicine.

Speaker 2:

So I was able to work with patients, the outpatients after surgery at Princess Margaret in cancer, with healing. So a colleague and I were doing the healing process for post-surgery cancer patients who had Reiki and who had our mindset meditation, and when we did the post, I think it was 14 weeks later, those who had the Reiki and the meditation and the mindset exercises, the healing and capacity for them was 68 to 70% greater than those who didn't. So if you're talking about mindset and stress management and behavioral changes, that is all up to us and that's not something that tradition. I think less than 1% of appointments with medical doctor visits ever address any kind of emotional and mental heaviness of what diabetes is. And I can tell you the all day chatter is can I do that?

Speaker 2:

Should I have that? Oh no. What about a future vocation? Oh no, what do I do? I can't forget this. What if I run out of batteries? Where's my test? It doesn't stop. So when you have the tools that you need, you can get the confidence that you have and your behavior can be much more accommodating and healing than stressed out.

Speaker 1:

Thank you for that, because I think when I go to the doctor, when I went to the doctor, these were her exact words. When I said can I do something to stop having to take medication? And she said no.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

I'm like, I don't believe you. I've been searching for what that is and I still don't believe you. I don't believe, based on my own intuition and all of the information that's readily available to anybody, that I am locked down and imprisoned by this diagnosis. The same thing I've been told with my high blood pressure as well. Now cholesterol. That's not the case. Definitely there's a change in diet that would help, but this is what the message that a lot, I'm sure I'm she's not the only doctor that's, you know the message is getting out there is like no, this is your, your sentence and this is what you have to take in order to at least Be at that normal level. And I will tell you that most days, even I'm on medication and even when I'm really doing well with my eating, my sugar levels would still be considered high.

Speaker 2:

Right, and what I can say to that is your. That is typical Experience. That happens multiple times and in our practice and at our wellness center and our group coaching programs and in our groups. I don't believe that there's there's anyone that doesn't experience similar. As a matter of fact, we've had some clients that say our doctor says don't test, come in next time and we'll see. See what your difference is from now until the next time.

Speaker 2:

And the problem with that is is If you're not taking responsibility for your own health and well-being, what's happening between this appointment and that appointment is why all the complications? Because very silently and very invisibly for many years, high sugars can be going on on the inside until one day. Hmm, and the issue with that is and and like you were saying about your doctor, the issue with that is is that we need to become more aware. Heighten our antenna, put our antennas up and look at what our body symptomatology is. Are we feeling this luggage? Are we tired? Are we annoyed? Are we brain fog? Are we? What are these things with sugars? Because I can tell you the Holistic approach to diabetes wellness has four pillars.

Speaker 2:

You asked me about the food and you talked about movement. You talked about mindset. There's four pillars to being successful and Living dot the diabetes free lifestyle. And do you want me to tell you what those are? Yeah, yes. So in my proprietary four step system there's a proven, safe method that helps people you know have. Take their a one C's from whatever they are 14.2, 12.1, 9.6, whatever they are into the normal target zone and they're able to Substitute and swap in the holistic lifestyle approach and on these four categories. So there's four pillars. One is mindset number one over everything else. Number two is meals diabetes friendly meals, okay. And getting your kitchen set up for success so that, no matter where you turn, you're supported. And then learning and having Fun with putting so many great recipes together that you never knew that you were, that you could have, okay. Number three is movement. So we have mindset, meals, movement and mastery. We have over 25 best self-care practices and people choose what resonates with them and what they need the most, and when they integrate these best self-care practices with a really great Adaptation tool, then what you're able to do is tweak and pivot those behavior patterns and you're able to then implement those Strategies in each of those pillars and you could have a vibrant life, you can bypass and prevent all those unwelcome consequences that nobody wants to hear about and that nobody wants to end up in the emergency department.

Speaker 2:

Well, you know, I lost my grandmother to the complications of diabetes. She had lost her vision slowly over time and her mobility became a challenge to more and more and Eventually, diabetes one day took her life. And I was shortly diagnosed, within just a couple months, maybe two months of that time, and when they were giving, when the traditional Medical model and the doctors were giving me the same diagnosis and the same Prognosis and what I could expect in the next five to seven years, unlike you, your doctor said no, this is what you do. Well, I was given the same thing and I thought you know, I'm gonna be, I'm gonna let Diabetes hijack my body and I'm gonna get the same result that millions of people get, and that's not okay, it's unacceptable. We weren't born to be sick, we were born to be healthy. So when you talk about holistic and that you're looking for things, there is a lot of misinformation and there's a lot of information out there and, like anything else, what's gonna extract and work for you, what order is it gonna work and how do you piece it together, for your body is gonna be different for someone else based on, like you said for you, a blood pressure. I think you said what was the other one, sorry, cholesterol. So obviously even a Couple of other things often can go along with diabetes, and those are some of the common ones. But imagine, imagine being to support yourself with some of the more natural solutions, whether it's a combination of how diabetes friendly foods that you surround yourself with in your kitchen and when you go out, because there's no restriction if you know what to do. And imagine having stress release and stress management techniques that work for you. And imagine doing very specific Resistance training exercises. That's going to enhance your insulin efficiency when you marry those together with some best self-care practices.

Speaker 2:

I can give you a couple examples, if you want. Then you are off to the races and guess what? The medication Requirements over time are going to increase because your body gets used to what it's taking. And then people begin scared because they have to take more Of the same medication or they have to add more medications, and that's completely unnecessary and that actually burns out your organs. That makes your kidneys and liver work, you know, over time to process this stuff Unnecessary. We can give them healing, healing tweaks here and there, whether it's an herb like cinnamon in your coffee, whether it's a great vitamin or mineral, whether it's a great stress release technique. There's a lot of things that we can do with combining different things and you know what they're your natural blood sugar Balancers, and so we're able to do so much and we're able to then help reduce and in many cases with type 2, people can swap in this lifestyle for medications, and medications can go on a train, go in East forever.

Speaker 1:

I think. I think what More than I'm getting out of the conversation is first of all, I love the four pronged approach. I love that. You know it is four things. It's not just medication and food. This is, I think, the general idea is Cut out all your sugar, which means basically don't eat anything. In my world it's like don't eat anything.

Speaker 1:

I hear you, I hear you and then, and then, you know, take medication and it's really, you know, I look at, every morning I take three medications and then I have some supplements that I take as well. And I look at those three and every morning I'm like, how do you guys, I don't, I don't want you guys now, blood pressure I've had since I was very young, so it's probably the same time you were diagnosed with diabetes. I was diagnosed with hyper pressure In the last couple of years, my menopausal years.

Speaker 2:

I've been good, as those are tough.

Speaker 1:

Walk in the park. Thank God I don't get hot flashes that much I'm knocking myself. Oh my goodness.

Speaker 2:

You're a lucky woman.

Speaker 1:

I do get cold flashes, which is I don't know which is worse, to be honest, but I, I, just I think that I this conversation is a great eye opener, ear opener, energy opener For those of us who feel like there's no other options. There's, you know, we think we can get off of it and then we think, oh, we just do exercise, just do this, and, like you said, there's people who do all of those things and yet they're still having to take medication because the level is coming down.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely, and the whole thing is here and I think we haven't really addressed this part of it. And I want to come over to mindset for a minute. Yes, because when we look at holistic, when we look at holistic, we look at the entire body as an inclusive. As an inclusive, we're not taking an organ and addressing one organ and not looking at what happens to the rest of the body. The other part of holistic is not just combining traditional with natural remedies and an overall, you know, big spotlight. What this also includes is mind, body and soul, so your spiritual connection with your higher self, with your inner self.

Speaker 2:

If it wasn't for my intuition, I probably wouldn't be here, because I go by what my body tells me. However, I wasn't always so attuned to what my body has always told me. I've had to develop that skill over time. But I can read my body pretty well and very quickly now. It doesn't, you know, and, like I said, it's like a muscle. It takes energy and it takes a willingness and a desire.

Speaker 2:

But how are we really connected with our inner selves and our bodies? Are we even aware of what? Like? They're talking to us all the time, but are we listening? Are we available to notice what's going on. That's the big question.

Speaker 2:

So, when it comes to our spiritual self and higher self, a lot of that is in our whole mindset arena, because it's about being comfortable with yourself. It's about recognizing what your body likes, what it doesn't like, and you get to the point where you're able to establish in your day if something's going to have more of a what I would call allergic reaction in your body. It's not that, but it's a trigger and your sugars go to the sky. And why is it that sometimes your sugars go high and stay there for long periods of time? And why is it other times they'll go high and come down? And why is it other times they're like this? So, debunking all the myths that we've learned in tradition, which really haven't been addressing diabetes as a whole, and looking more from the perspective of our bodies as all inclusive, and how each one of these areas empowers or disempowers the other, is really what holistic is all about. It's a marriage between these, it is a connection between these.

Speaker 1:

And I think it's important also for people to understand that it's individualistic, it's not like, absolutely Number one medication I think right now is Metform, right, and then there's I couldn't take it because it upset my stomach, but Absolutely yes, there's something else that I'm taking right now.

Speaker 1:

I'm just I'm so glad that we've had this conversation that you're able to provide people to kind of just wipe away the you know, the windshield wipers, that's, you know you're wiping away so we can clearly see oh, I'm not tied down to this diagnosis, I'm not tied down to this is just the way it is. How do I figure out my food? Oh, like, how do I reduce stress? Like there's so much that's, it's intricate, intricately, oh, my God, I can't even say the right word, but it's so. It's like this, and you know, one kind of without the other, and what you really, you know, spoke about just now, which is the mindset, it, they always, you know they meaning the, they are in the world are in the new approach to our lifestyles that it starts up in here connected to understand, like, where is it coming from?

Speaker 1:

It's just the physical is just a result of something.

Speaker 2:

Right. It manifests in the physical, yeah. However, what is the and it could be deep rooted emotions on resolved energies that are not your own. They can actually belong to someone else, it can. It can be a combination of so many things and the thing is is there's cobwebs of all different things and we need to clear out those interferences because, like I said, when we give the body what it needs, it understands balance. That's its natural state. So, of course, if we're going to give it more than a teaspoon of sugar at a time, which is all the body can ever process at one time, or if we're going to assault our bodies like a punging bag because we don't know what the limitations of it are, then what we're doing is that's not very much.

Speaker 2:

Self compassion and ignorance is not an excuse because it costs too much. It costs you, on average, 11 years of your life. Diabetes steals an average of 11 years from the average person's life. And what is a year or a day in the life of someone worth? It's worth getting to know what's going to be a safe, proven way that you can help your body heal and and avoid and bypass complications. You look a little surprised. The average woman in Canada, mama's, like without 80, without diabetes, lives to 83. With diabetes, she lives to 69. Okay, we'll see, that's not that far from me.

Speaker 1:

So I'm like okay either.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Okay. So let's get on that bandwagon and I think not bandwagon let's get on the on the right path. Let's get on the holistic journey. Why the holistic journey? Like let's pivot. It is been such a pleasure and this small amount of time that we spent together I really feel it's just a little bit of amount of time is that we need to talk more and get a little more deep diving into, you know, some of the things that you spoke about, because I really I know people can. I think you know people are gonna go to your website. It's right here If you're looking and watching on YouTube, but I'll say it for the audience that's listening, and it's wwwholisticdiabetesolutionscom is where you can find Cheryl, and I'm sure you have a team, or is it just you?

Speaker 2:

There's a team of 10 plus people Actually more now I think there's probably 13 maybe now that are part of our team. And so we are global and we just are here because we believe that people, when they're given the tools, that's where they gain their power, that's where they're self-empowered to live their best life, and if we're able to give them the tools, that's one thing. But here's where we offer a world-class education and here's the difference. We know the what, because we're not just doctors or professionals living with diabetes ourselves. We get it. Number two, it's like we are able to then put together, like I said, the steps so that we know what goes with what, what goes with what when, which is really great. We're able to give that.

Speaker 2:

But here's the thing, the difference is our world-class implementation.

Speaker 2:

You can know the what, you can get the steps, but it's almost like this and I'm like this If I go to IKEA and I go and buy a product and I get the directions, they're all Japanese to me and I don't understand Japanese, so that's not gonna work for me.

Speaker 2:

But if you tell me, you let me digest the information and I read it and you show me, and then I show you and you can coach me, just like a private trainer will coach somebody who's lifting weights or trying to get in shape, and someone spotting you where you can refine or have a better understanding of what it is that's going on or what you're trying to do, and you have somebody there to guide you so that you're not gonna go down the rabbit hole and you're gonna go in the right direction. That's the difference. It's the how do I do it and show me and be there for me to support me. So we have communities, we have free Facebook groups, we have membership programs and we have coaching groups and people get to make lifetime friends. Lynn and I that's honestly we met in through someone else actually another professional and we were being interviewed and then Lynn and I started talking and, oh my goodness, we've been a great support for one another for years now and that's how you get make lifelong friends.

Speaker 1:

So true, and what I loved that you said that's so important, because I'm a strong believer in that as being a coach myself. It's the execution and it's like, yeah, it's knowing is great, right, we all know a lot of things Good up here, but is it good in here? Yeah, and that are powerful tools, but if you don't pick up the tool and use it, the IKEA shelf is not gonna get built.

Speaker 2:

Right. You have to know the right tool that's safe and proven. You have to know what it works with, when to apply it and then the how to, and once you know that, it's like learning the waltz If there are 10 major steps in the waltz and you get to learn the waltz, you can create your own dance and have a beautiful waltz. If you have the diabetes success system, which is our diabetes breakthrough blueprint for people, if once you have that blueprint for you and you have those steps and you have the support along the way, like you are good to go and imagine having the solutions for a lifetime, so that you get to be 83 years old and you get to have a great quality of life.

Speaker 1:

I'm trying for 100, but the rate I'm going I don't know. Now that I know I'm decreasing.

Speaker 2:

I'm sure you're gonna live a very long life and it's a. I gotta say. It's really refreshing and really pleasant to be in a upbeat interview where we're talking and exchanging back and forth. It's really refreshing. So it's been nice meeting you.

Speaker 1:

Which you're so kind. So for those of you who wanna know where to get in touch with Cheryl, we did say the holisticdiabetesolutionscom, and if you can't remember all of that, the Miracles Directory look her up, just put her name in the search bar and you will find or go under diabetes, you will find her. I love these conversations I walk away with so much because I like to come with the learner's mind, even though I know stuff, but I clearly do not, which is perfect. So thank you.

Speaker 2:

I think we know stuff. But here's the goodness we can know more yeah.
